Astonishing new footage shows gorilla PROTECTING child and holding his hand

Cincinnati Zoo workers shot Harambe dead out of fear that it would hurt the boy – but latest footage from the incident suggests he was not in danger

As you’ve certainly learned by now, an innocent 500 pound gorilla is dead because it appears a three year old child was not being looked after and allowed  to climb into a Gorilla Pen. True, we may not know the whole story yet but we see enough  in the video a gorilla that actually appeared to protect the child before the gorilla, who did nothing wrong -and even appeared to help- was cut down due to an ‘ugly American’ family, if you will.

That opinion by us may sound   extreme. But, it may be well past time to give such innocent animals their just due. We won’t even go into the PETA argument that gorilla’s don’t belong in a cage. We’ll just say this family was lucky to be able to observe a gorilla in captivity, perhaps,  and should have done everything to warrant everyone’s safety.

We do  know that a mother, a pre-school adminsitrator,  was perhaps caring for more children that she should have and her husband-with a long criminal history-didn’t appear to be of help, though on the scene. Some will say it’s unfair to bring up the husband’s criminal record which covers most major categories of crime. It’s time , we say, to put all the facts on the table, even those that may or may not have anything to do with the action , but certainly could.

Responsiblity has become less and less a value in society since the late 1960s when flower power replaced strict rules and ‘do your own thing’ and ‘let it all hang out’ have become mantras ever since.

This isn’t the first incident where young children have taken advantage of caged animals. You may remember the teenagers from Fremont area who did receive a minor charge for  throwing rocks at tigers in the San Francisco Zoo, as we recall.

Maybe zoos can do a little more , though they have gone out of their way to make the environment as un-restrictive as possible in recent years. But, now with more and more irresponsible people, it may be time to go back to putting up more fences, or, perhaps even doing away with zoos. The latter would be a shame but humans are making things more difficult by their behavior. It seems like humans can start taking lessons from their ‘lower’ animal friends and learn to better get along. In 20 years living in a wildlife refuge I’ve NEVER seen an animal kill another – and that includes many birds, deer, cats, foxes, wild turkeys , etc.  Sadly, humans are the ones we’re seeing ruining it for everyone. Do humans even deserve to have zoos anymore? Maybe they should put the humans in the zoos for animals to watch. Ha!

“This beautiful gorilla lost his life because the boy’s parents did not keep a closer watch on the child.”

Animal rights activists have created an online petition on Change.org to protest the death of an endangered gorilla who was fatally shot after a 3-year-old boy fell into its enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo.

The petition, which has already garnered over 300,ooo signatures, asks that the Cincinnati Zoo, Child Protective Services and the Cincinnati Police Department hold the parents of the child responsible for the death of the 17-year-old male gorilla.

The zoo decided to shoot, as opposed to tranquilize, the 450-pound silverback gorilla to minimize the risk of aggression since the boy was in close proximity to the animal.

The petition reads: “This heartbreaking decision was made in the best interests of keeping the child and the public safe. This beautiful gorilla lost his life because the boy’s parents did not keep a closer watch on the child. We the undersigned believe that the child would not have been able to enter the enclosure under proper parental supervision…It is believed that the situation was caused by parental negligence and the zoo is not responsible for the child’s injuries and possible trauma.We the undersigned want the parents to be held accountable for the lack of supervision and negligence that caused Harambe to lose his life.”

We’re living in a society where humans, in spite of their growing anger and violence across America, continue to be held  up  over those innocent pets and animals.
