17-year-old Pinky says goodbye on her own terms, avoids house flood same day

: Buddies 17 year old Pinky and one year Oreo doing their thing in two different worlds yet only 2 ft away from each other. Good times they were and still are but we miss Pinky and now we’re in a totally different place which may be good to be away from the sad memories or good memories, now new memories are being made with Oreo and Archie

Our dear Pinky passed away on her own, overnight Saturday/ Sunday morning.  Riddled with cancer and kidney disease for months , She appeared to stop eating the last few days though She was still moving pretty well about the house, drinking a lot of water and appeared relatively happy-Even soaking up some sun in the catio, pictured above. Right up to her last day, She appeared not to be in any obvious pain But we had already planned to take her to our dear vet for probably her last visit on Monday.  But she was able to leave on her own terms in her favorite bedroom closet after having come out to visit us all.

As always seems to happen, It was Sunday, The one day our regular vet was closed, so we (I) took her to the 24-hour vet we know for cremation services. It was nice to see our favorite tech,Suzanne, there who gave Pinky a nice send off. We left Pinky with her favorite soft deerskin pad She had layed  on many times in her carrier on visits like this to the vets. Only this would be her final visit, sadly. Pinky lived a full , mostly happy life of 17 years.  Pinky had quite a life spread around Northern California which you can soon read about further at

We had Pinky about five or maybe more short but happy years after our friend Mr Kelly passed away in Red Bluff and Pinky needed a good home.

After our deer big guy  Zack passed a couple years ago we wanted to take in a new friend for Pinky and that would be another Red Bluff Kelly cat named Oreo, a semi stray who needed a home when Ellen moved to a new home and couldn’t take the outdoor cats. We were unsure 1-year-old Oreo would get along with 16-year-old pinky, But, amazingly, they became good buddies.

The Pinky was small of stature, 9 pounds, she made up for it in tenacity and stood up to the newcomer kitten, Oreo, when he first showed up,As well as 13-year-old Archie , who ,coincidentally , came to us unexpectedly about the same time from a  friend of a friend who really needed a new home for this wonderful cat to whom we couldn’t say no .

Ellen tells the story  how Pinky had become pretty isolated after her faVorite mom Mrs Kelly passed away some 15 years ago ,approximately, and then when Mr Kelley passed there was no body with her in that big house other than coming by a couple times today to feed her and visit. So we were happy we could help out our friend of many years, Pinky.

So now Pinky had a house full of cats and a human as well as lots of birds outside to chirp at-That’s the noise that some cats make It sounds not unlike a bird sound when cats are viewing potential prey.

Since cancer diagnosis Pinky has had at least a couple good months or decent months with the predinsulaone  to help in the B12 definitely But now things are looking so good with pinky not eating . I see though she still moving around perhaps a little hyperthyroid since she’s not getting her methamisole pills down her -well concentrating more in the prednisolone steroid and B12 shots

.Meanwhile Pinky just moving around a little bit lying on all the nice soft cushioning places I put down.

After a lot of thought and some discussion with that caring vet staff I decided to try to keep pinky hanging on until Monday. If she were howling or seem to distress I would have called a home mobile vet to come out which is also recommended Rather than be premature and this way I can spend some more time with her and I think she likes and being around at least as long as i don’t shove food in her face . So on Monday we’ll see our regular nice vet and sadly say our good byes I’m afraid. At least pinky’s not hiding in the bus like she was a little bit. Or perhaps trying to get away from the other cats but I think she’s been pretty relaxed despite the circumstances.

They didn’t have any appointments at her nice vet this afternoon so I made apot for Monday morning. At least she does the same in any pain and she is moving but not eating and right now we are on the bed together which is nice. She won’t get on my lap or chest but that’s okay she’s looking out the window and I tried everything to feed her. The only other thing I might do is give her a b12 shot or maybe wait till tomorrow when it’s due rather than make any mistakes or maybe I won’t give it at all. I need a little more research

Got the prednisone filled and now we’re using the pills because pinky likes the pill pocket peanut butter so we’re able to do the prednisol and were able to do the other one steroid whatever you call that plus the B12 seems to be working I barely been able to get the shots in her for the last 3 weeks and she seems to perk up after she gets the shot. today she was outside within 2 hours after the shot in the catio
